Meet Nascar Joe!
1. What is your real name?
Joe Turner
2. Where is your home location?
Independence, IA
3. When did you start Geocaching?
Made my account on May 9, 2010. Found my first cache a week later.
4. How did you learn about Geocaching?
First heard about Geocaching on a youth trip to Pike’s Peak State Park. Didn’t find any that day. Made my account the next day though.
5. What is your favorite part of Geocaching?
That’s an interesting question. It’s ever changing. When I first started, it was all about the finds. Then it became more about caching with others. Now it’s more about hiding them and trying to come up with evil puzzles.
6. What types of caches do you enjoy most?
Pretty much anything with BigBrotherBear’s (boy I really miss him) and Aceey’s (best cacher ever) names on it. Love a good hike!!!
7. What is the favorite cache you’ve found?
Not so much a favorite cache, but favorite cache outings. There are 2:
#1 – A trip down to Honey Creek Caching and Splashing VI and The People’s Choice Awards 2017. Left home at 4AM. Found the Iowa Star caches on my way down. I was able to be an honorary member of Team Freal for the day. Fun time. I drove home after the awards dinner.
#2 – I was able to go down to Manhattan, Kansas for MOGA. I left home at 8PM on Thursday (after being up since 4AM for a full day’s work). Found about 10 caches on the way down adding several new counties. Met up with markayla, iowaPete, and Let Freedom Ring at 6AM. I cached all day on Friday with them. Got about 5 hours of sleep. Up bright and early on Saturday. Cached until 11PM and headed for home. Took a northerly route just to grab Big Red in Nebraska. Made it home at 6AM on Sunday as my family was getting up to go to church. Think I made it to bed that night at 8PM. Great weekend!
8. Outside of Geocaching, what other hobbies/interests do you enjoy?
My hobbies are the three G’s: God, genealogy, and Geocaching.
