You are more than welcome to have a look around the internet home of the Iowa Geocachers Organization. Many of the features of this web site (and of the IGO) are restricted to members only. But membership is FREE and we'd love to count you among our many members.
We have been receiving lots of bogus registration attempts lately, so if you would like to register for an account here please use the link provided here to send an e-mail to email@example.com.
Important! The body of your e-mail MUST contain a brief statement indicating what your interest in the IGO is AND the username you wish to register under. Are you a geocacher? An Iowan just getting started in geocaching or wondering just what this geo-thing is? Please let us know. Failure to include this information may invalidate your registration attempt. Your registration will be tied to the e-mail address used to send this message. Confirmation of registration could take up to a week so please be patient. Thank you.
Our Mission: To support and promote geocaching in and around Iowa through the education of geocachers, public officials, and the general public; to encourage safe, legal, and ethical geocaching practices; and to encourage and support an open, helpful, and fun geocaching community.
Kirk F is an IGO member from Galena, Illinois. Those folks from the Dubuque area know him well. Gary and I met Kirk a long time ago and visited his home in historic Galena enroute to visit my (Twila's) Great Aunt in Racine, Wisc.
Board members and others have been asked by more than a few participants of the weekend competition how the event was scored.
The formulas for the scoring are listed below.
The Base Points was based off of the cache’s D/T rating:
Difficulty X Terrain X 10
DTCBears (Dave C.) is a ‘relatively’ new cacher but already has a wealth of geocaching experience. I recently had some communication with him but had the wonderful opportunity to meet him in person last weekend at an event. So I asked him a few questions in an effort to get to know him better and introduce him to our IGO community.
Congratulations to BigBrotherBear who submitted this winning design for the COTM Banner!! And many, many thanks to everyone who participated by sending us some extremely creative artwork!!
This banner will be available, for free, to any cache owner who wins the monthly COTM contest, and can be added to the cache listing page to highlight its COTM winning status to all cachers who view the page. It will be customized each month to include the proper month and year.
I know, this doesn't look any different than the old IGO...but it's all new under-the-hood. You are now on a new, upgraded, faster and more robust server! Can you tell?
It may be some time before EVERYTHING begins working again as it used to (or better). If you notice anything wrong, please be patient and send me the details in an e-mail addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org (also a new e-mail address).
We had several OUTSTANDING tag design entries submitted for the committee to vote on.
It was not an easy decision as all of the submissions were fabulous!! In the end, the winning tag was this design submitted by Team Schnauzer!!
