On a great day for caching in late October, sunny and in the mid 50's, geocachers from around the great state of Iowa headed to Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Facility. The reason, "GC4NMQ0 IowaAdmin's Farewell Celebration!!", An event hosted by The Weasel.
After 11 years as Iowa's volunteer reviewer, Ken has decided to step down, and move on to the next chapter of his life.
FACT: IowaAdmin has published 26,217 geocaches. Over ten years, that equates to an average of just over 50 per week!!.
The event was fantastic. There was time for visiting with friends new and old. A great, as usual, potluck lunch, cachers are the best cooks. There were door prizes for almost everyone that attended. And finally, a special presentation to the guest of honor, on behalf of geocachers from the entire state of Iowa, Members of the IGO board of Directors gave Ken a plaque thanking him for his many years of service. If you have placed a cache in Iowa, Ken is probably the guy that OK'd it.
The crowd chanted "Speech Speech" and Ken spoke. He talked about how he enjoyed working with Iowa geocachers. He said that when the reviewers would get together and talk about things, he noticed how a lot of the reviewers would speak of tough times dealing with cachers. He used the term "Iowa Nice" as he talked about his experiences with cachers from Iowa. He thanked those in attendance, as well as everyone he has dealt with in the past 11 years, for making his job pretty easy. After a standing ovation, there was time for more visiting, caching, and eating.
A very nice time was had by all who attended. Thanks Tim, for a great event, and a big THANK YOU to Ken for all he has done for geocaching in our state.
